Objective The purpose of this research is to discuss whether the erupting of the third molar makes the first molar′s mesial movement easier during the beginning of the orthodontic treatment. Methods 18patients aged from 18 to 24 were selected. All the patients were treated with 4 premolars extracted, except for unilateral removal of a third molar randomly, other conditions for both side remained identical. After 3 months′treatment, the movement of the mesial-buccal cusp of the maxillary first molar was measured in both sides. Results 1)There was no significant change in mesial movement of the maxillary first molar in the extracted side during the 3 months′ treatment(P >0.05). 2)There was significant change in mesial movement of the maxillary first molar(1 mm) in the non-extracted side during the 3 months′ treatment(P<0.01). 3)The distance of the mesial movement of the first molar in the non-extracted side was larger than the extracted side, and the difference was
significant(P<0.01). Conclusion In the beginning of the orthodontic treatment, the erupting maxillary third molar will push the first molar to move mesially while there was not enough erupting space for the maxillary third molar.

Objective To study and analyze the quantity of the Ni-ion and Cr-ion educed from two types of Ni-Cr-porcelain alloy crowns in artificial saliva, to instruct clinical applications. Methods Ni-Cr porcelain alloy which contains Cr 26.0% and 12.6% were fritted into 24 Ni-Cr porcelain fused to metal crowns, and divided two groups according to Cr concentration. Both two groups included 12 ones respectively. Twenty-four samples were averagely divided into two groups. Group A: High-chromium alloy group; Group B: Low-ch romium alloy group.
They were put into artificial saliva in sealed container. The concentration of Ni-ion and Cr-ion were measured at the first, second, fourth, eighth, sixteenth and thirty-second weekends with graphite furnace atomic absorption spec trometry. Results 1)The educed Cr-ion from 24 samples of two groups increased slowly at the first weekend to the four week, then decreased. The educed Ni-ion from 24 samples kept increasing from first weekend to the thirty-second weekend. 2)The mass of low-chromium porcelain alloy group decreased were more than that of highchromium alloy group after experiment(P<0.01). Conclusion 1)The educed chromium ion level reached the peak at the forth weekend. 2)The educed nickel ion in the low-chromium alloy group was much higher than that of the high-chromium alloy group. 3)The loss of mass in low-chromium alloy group was much higher than in the highchromium alloy group.

Objective To analyze and explain how to treat a patient with deep caries based on best evidence. Methods Used dental caries and excavation as key words to search OVID-All EBM reviews-cochrane DSR, ACP journal club, DARE, and CCTR(4th Quarter 2006) to find the best clinical evidence and evaluated the quality of evidence. Results According to the evidence, we found that partial caries removal would appear to be preferable to complete caries removal in the deep lesion, in order to reduce the risk of carious exposure. We found no evidence that partial caries removal is deleterious in terms of signs and symptoms of pulpitis or necrosis in the immediate to long term. It needs further clinical trial to decide whether cavity need re-entered at a second visit to allow the remaining decay to be removed. Conclusion Partial caries removal in symptomless, primary or permanent teeth reduces the risk of pulp exposure. We found no detriment to the patient in terms of pulpal symptoms in this procedure

Objective To detect the concentration of interleukin-4(IL-4) in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) in the patients with chronic periodontitis before and after treatment, to research the relationship between IL -4 in GCF and periodontitis and the effect of IL-4 in pathogenesis of periodontitis and its progressiveness. Methods The concentration of IL-4 in GCF were detected by way of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay following careful sampling of GCF with the standardized filter strips in healthy adults as well as periodontitis patients. Results The concentration of IL-4 in GCF in the inflammatory group was significant lower than the normal group(P<0.05). No significant deference of IL-4 concentration and statistical significance were found before and after a month′s treatment(P>0.05). Negative correlation was found between probing depth and the concentration of IL-4 in GCF, while the concentration of IL-4 in GCF was not significantly associated with the clinical parameters gingival index and attachment loss. Conclusion Deficiency of IL-4 can result in periodontitis and the examination of IL-4 in GCF might be used as a sensitive diagnosis index of periodontitis at early stage.

Axin-2 gene is a negative regulator of Wnt/β-catenin signalling, regulates cellular proliferation, differentiation, and is essential for development and morphogenesis, tooth development is under strict genetic control, gene affecting early tooth development. Axin-2 gene may be associated with familial tooth agenesis or oligodontia. It also acts as a tumor suppressor by limiting the deregulation of Wnt signalling that is common in some cancers. To study the axin-2 gene will be helpful for us to understand the aspects of tooth development.
