Abstract: Herpes virus is common in nature and closely related to periodontitis. Herpes virus is widespread in the oral cavity of patients with chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis. Herpes virus plays a role in periodontitis by direct damage to cells, interfere with host immune system, and establishing a co-relationship with periodontal pathogens. Hereby, the researches between herpes virus and periodontitis were reviewed.

Key words: periodontitis, herpes virus, pathogenesis
