    Inter J Stomatol. 2007, 34 (06):  399-401.
    Abstract ( 1296 )   HTML ( 6 )   PDF(pc) (190KB) ( 852 )   Save

Objective To investigate the relationship between lymphatic vessel density(LVD) in tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC)and tumor metastasis. Methods Immunohistochemistry SP method was applied to label the lymphatic vessels of tumors by VEGFR- 3 staining in 62 cases of TSCC, the expression of VEGF- D were analyzed at the same time. Results Of the 62 patients, the positive staining of lymphatic vessels were 56 cases. The functional lymphatic vessels was mainly located in the peri- tumoral areas. No evidence of mature lymphatic vessels was found in the paraneoplastic stroma. The positive expression of VEGF- D was distributed in the cytoplasm of cancer cells. With the increase in the expression of VEGF- D, the LVD of peritumor also increased. Conclusion LVD in TSCC is significantly correlated with neck lymph node metastasis, VEGF- D/VEGFR- 3 pathway can contribute to lymphangiogenesis and lymph node metastasis.

Objective To detect the effect of dry socket treatment by metronidazole - dexamethasone - iodoform paste. Methods 60 cases with dry socket, divided into two groups of 30 cases each. One group was the test group, the other was the control group. Tooth extraction wounds were normally washed. Metronidazole- dexamethasone - iodoform paste was brushed on the wounds of test group. Iodoform was brushed on the wound of control group. Clinical effect of the two groups was compared. Results In test group, 28 cases gained obvious effect, and 2 gained normal effect. In control group, 10 cases gained obvious effect, and 20 gained normal effect. Test group obtained higher effect ratio(93.33%) compared with control group(33.33%). Statistical difference in the two group appears(P<0.01). Conclusion Dry socket treatment by metronidazole - dexamethasone - iodoform paste is recommended in primary hospital with reliability and feasibility.

Endodontic interappointment pain is a common complication of root canal therapy. The main causative factors encompass mechanical, chemical, and microbial injury to the periradicular tissues during root canal therapy. In response to the injury, a large mass of chemical mediators are released or activated, and acute inflammation occurs at the periradicular tissues, which leads to the interappointment pain. Knowledge on the mechanisms of interappointment pain can help clinicians to take effective measures for prevention and management.

Pleomorphic adenoma(PA) is the most common salivary gland neoplasm. The tumor could transform to malignancy as malignant pleomorphic adenoma(MPA), if the preexisting PA remains for long time or after multiple recurrences. During the malignant transformation, multifactors and multigene alterations are involved. The recent studies demonstrate that cytogenetic alterations, oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, adhesion molecules and extracellular matrix proteins may play important roles in the process. This article summarized some advances in the mechanisms of the malignant transformation of salivary pleomorphic adenoma.
