Abstract:

The advanced glycation end products(AGEs)is a heterogeneous group of compounds of nonenezymatic glycosation reactions. The accumulation of AGEs in diabetic patients′tissue and blood may contribute to the developmemt of diabetic complications. Recently, it has also been found that the enhanced interaction between AGEs and its′receptor was one of the pathogenesises of aggravated periodontal diseases. The objective of this review is to clarify the role of AGEs and its′receptor in periodontal diseases and the correlative mechanism.

Key words: advanced glycation end products, receptor for advanced glycation end products, periodontal diseases, diabetes mellitus
