Formation mechanism of Enterococcus faecalis biofilm associating with post-treatment endodontic disease

Abstract:

Enterococcus faecalis biofilm continuously releases pathogenic factors to the root apical region, causing post-treatment endodontic disease. Effective control of the formation of Enterococcus faecalis biofilm is the key to higher success rate of root canal therapy. This article reviewed the structure and biological characteristics of Enterococcus faecalis in root canal, and the cohesion and environment factors affecting the biofilm formation.
