Research progress on antibacterial property of hydroxyapatite coating materials

Abstract: Hydroxyapatite is used widely as bioactive coating of implant. However, when the devices are implanted, bacteria attach to the surface of the surface of the implant and then result in peri-implantitis. So, the peri-implantitis is the important reason leading to the descending overall retaining rate of implants. In order to control the bacterial infection, a great effort has been taken to modify the material surface by incorporating antibacterial metal ion and then significantly improve retaining rate of implants. This review summarized the antibacterial property of different coating materials.
