Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a class of biologically active neuropeptide substances mainly released by the sensory nerve. In recent years, the role of CGRP in osseointeration around implants has received wide attention: CGRP positive nerve fibers are present in the bone tissue around the implant; CGRP is associated with the distribution of the capillary vessels around the implant, which suggests that CGRP may have a link with local revascularization on the base of microcirculation. In addition, CGRP could promote the peripheral nerve regeneration, and CGRP positive nerve fibers show regular changes in implant circumference. This paper will make a review of the research progress of CGRP on peripheral nerve, vascular regeneration and osseointegration around implants.

Key words: dental implant, calcitonin gene-related peptide, osseointegration, microcirculation, peripheral nerve
