Abstract: Diabetes mellitus has been thought as one of the contraindications to dental implant in a long period of time, and diabetes patients represent a significant portion of the population, as hyperglycaemia and its complications may cause negative effect to bone formation and may lead to the implant failure. Moreover, periodontal disease, frequently co-exists with diabetes. The complications of diabetes play significant effects to success rate of oral implant, compared with the general population. A higher failure rate has been seen in diabetes patients. It is well known that oral implant in diabetes patients become a hot spot. The effect of diabetes mellitus on jaw and bone healing around the dental implant, as well as how to enhance the success rate of dental implant in diabetes mellitus were discussed in this thesis.
