Abstract:

The hard palate is a common site for soft-tissue augmentation procedures, which have been widely performed to increase width and thickness of keratinized tissue around teeth and implants. Surgeons have to assess the location of the greater palatine neurovascular bundle, attach great importance to the thickness and histological composition of the grafts, and maintain their post-operative stabilization to achieve improved clinical performance. To guide clinical practices, our review summarizes relevant knowledge on the anatomy of the palate donor site, survival factors of the free soft-tissue grafts and their clinical applications.

Key words: hard palate mucosa, periodontics, dental implantation, transplantation
