Abstract: Reconstruction of mandibular defect caused by congenital malformation, trauma, infection or tumor remains a challenge. The traditional free bone grafting is limited to the poor recipient due to preceding radiotherapy. Meanwhile, vascularized bone grafting can also cause donor site morbidity and secondary deformity. Ectopic prefabricated vascularized bone grafting has recently become a new approach for mandibular reconstruction. This review
focuses on the methods, essential conditions, advantages and research progress of ectopic prefabricated vascularized bone formation.
