Research progress on hypoxia -inducible factor -1α

Abstract: Under the condition of anaemia, trauma, necrosis and defect, cells and tissues are often in mionectic condition. Hypoxia in cells and tissues leads to the transcriptional induction of a series of genes that participate in angiogenesis, iron metabolism, glucose metabolism, cell growth and proliferation. Among these genes, HIF-1α plays crucial roles in the angiogenesis of tumors and mammalian development. Recently year, it is found that besides inducing angiogenesis, HIF-1α has effect on osteogenesis. This review focused on the molecular structure, downstream target genes, osteogenesis of HIF-1α.
