Abstract:

Class Ⅲ malocclusion is maxillofacial deformity related to heredity and development, and would aggravate with growth. In growth and development process of children, maxillary protraction therapy is frequently used for treating early skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion. This method can effectively promote the forward growth and forward movement of the maxila. Several studies about maxillary protraction therapy for early skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion have been reported in recent years. However, the selection of proper treatment time, result of conjunction with rapid palatal expansion, anchorage, and long term stability still remain a challenge for orthodontics. This study reviews the research progress on maxillary protraction therapy for skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion.

Key words: maxillary protraction, skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion, orthodontic treatment
