Abstract:

Objective This study aimed to discuss the correlation between malocclusion and oral health-related quality of life(OHRQoL). Methods A total of 610 students without history of orthodontic treatment, tooth loss, and maxillofacial deformity were selected from four universities in Qinhuangdao. Index of treatment need(IOTN) was used for clinical examination, and OHRQoL-UK was used for assessment. Results About 8.7% of subjects endured negative effects in at least one of 16 items from malocclusion over the past month. Psychosocial aspect exhibited the lowest scores. IOTN-DHC/ IOTN-AC was negatively correlated with the UK total scores and with the UK subscores. Conclusion IOTN-DHC and IOTN-AC are negatively correlated with OHRQoL. IOTN-DHC exhibits the highest correlation in physical aspect, whereas IOTN-AC is mostly correlated with psychological aspect.

Key words: oral health-related quality of life, malocclusion, oral health-related quality of life measure, index of orthodontic treatment need
