Abstract:

Chinese aging population is growing rapidly and the elderly is an increasing proportion of the total. The extension of the life-span combined with the development of geriatric dentistry results in increased retention of natural teeth and higher risk of dental diseases within older patients. As a part of general health, dental health has an essential role in maintaining and improving the quality of life of the elderly. This review emphasizes on the current demographic situation, the impacts of aging population, and the relevant countermeasures.

Key words: population aging, impact, oral health, countermeasure
