Abstract: Objective To translate the original English version of child oral health impact profile(COHIP) into Chinese version and test its psychometric properties for use among Chinese eligible children. Methods The original English version of COHIP was translated, back-translated and cross-cultural adapted. Content validity index(CVI) scale and self-assessment for oral health and need for treatment questionnaire were established. Its reliability and validity were assessed in Chinese children aged 8 to15 years and their parents. Results Scales were completed by 1 189 pairs of children and parents, and 1 143 efficient scales were taken back, with the completion 96.1%. Cronbach’s α of COHIP(for child) was 0.903, item-total correlation coefficient ranged from 0.134 to 0.611, split-half reliability coefficient was 0.798, interclass correlation coefficient(ICC) was 0.926. Cronbach’s α of COHIP(for caregiver) was 0.796, item-total correlation coefficient ranged from 0.121 to 0.614, split-half reliability coefficient was 0.796, ICC was 0.931. Factor analysis found that there was certain logical relation among the items in Chinese version of COHIP. Conclusion The translated Chinese version of COHIP demonstrates acceptable reliability and validity. Its satisfying psychometric properties provide the theoretical evidence for further use in Chinese children.
