Nurse-patient communication skills in orthodontics

Abstract: Increasing aesthetic demands have caused many individuals to seek orthodontic treatment. Such treatment is challenged by differences in nurse personal qualities, specialized knowledge, and communication ability, as well as the growing number of patients with varied age-sex compositions, obvious psychological factors, individualized demands. The rapid development in clinical techniques and materials is also difficult to cope with. Fortunately, the easy access to multimedia and the development of network technique promote facilitated nurse-patient communication. In this review, we summarize the characteristics and influencing factors of the nurse-patient communication in orthodontic treatment and then discuss various communication skills and their clinical application to improve the efficiency of clinical treatment and patient satisfaction.
