Abstract: In recent years, lingual orthodontic treatment is gradually favored by patients, which can provide many advantages such as good appearance, accurate position and wider indications. It must bring higher requests to the diagnosis and treatment of doctors, because the biomechanical mechanism of lingual orthodontic treatment is obviously different from the traditional labial orthodontic treatment. In this paper, lingual orthodontics was reviewed about the development, types, characteristics, biomechanical mechanism and clinical applications.

Key words: lingual orthodontics, lingual bracket, lingual orthodontic positioning system
