The cause and the phenotypes of 47, XXX syndrome are discussed. XXX syndrome majorly derives from the maternal nondisjunctional errors during meiosis I or II, while 46, XX/47, XXX mosaic are caused by the nondisjunctional errors in zygotic mitosis during early embryonic development. Unlike other sex chromosome aneuploidy, there are no characteristic physical features for triple X patients. They are always female, usually taller than average in height, normal or delayed intelligent development, mostly fertile with no specific medical problems. 47, XXX syndrome is suggested to be associated with various diseases, but no significant evidence has shown the correlation between them. Genetic counseling is usually given to the 47, XXX patients and their parents concerning about the potential developmental and medical risks of this syndrome.

Diabetes, characterized with hyperglycemia, may lead to many complications, such as ketoacidosis, hypertension, atherosclerosis, eye diseases, diabetic nephropathy. Diabetes is one of the factors which are responsible for periodontal disease, and this opinion has been approved by many researchers. However, there is still dissension when it comes to the relationship between diabetes and caries. Majority of researchers consider that diabetes may lead to high caries prevalence, but there is still opposite point. In our article, we expatiated the new development about the relationship between diabetes and caries.

Periodontitis is a common and frequently encountered disease. However, its mechanism is remain unclear. Apoptosis is triggered by special signaling molecules and is a highly regulated form of programmed cell death under control of genes. A larger number of studies approve that apoptosis plays an important role in the progress of periodontitis. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, one of the main pathogenic bacteria of periodontitis produces several virluence factors. The relationship between virluence factors of Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and apoptosis, Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans and a variety of cells in periodontal tissue was reviewed.

    Abstract ( 1220 )   HTML ( 6 )   PDF(pc) (29KB) ( 1131 )   Save

An isthmus is defined as a narrow, ribbon- shaped communication between two root canals that contains pulp tissues. It can act as a bacterial reservoir which is difficult to prepare, shape and fill, and thus accounts for the failure of root canal therapy. The location and treatment of the canal isthmus may be a prerequisite to successful surgical endodontics. Now, with the adjunct of dental operating microscope and endoscope in routine endodontic procedures, clinicians can view the resected root surface better, identify and prepare the isthmus. The recognition and management of the canal isthmus may be advantageous in increasing the success rate of surgical endodontics.

Magnetic attachments are widely used for prosthodontic treatment. Comparing to conventional attachments utilizing mechanical friction, advantage of magnetic attachments include the lack of visible metal frameworks, simplified tooth preparation, and less traumatic lateral force. One of the problems that limited their wide acceptance to clinicians was the low corrosion resistance of the permanent magnet alloy. Recently, development of new magnetic materials as well as improvement of corrosion resistance of magnet has facilitated the application of magnetic attachment.

Methods 45 patients with serious periodontitis, total 67 diseased teeth, were selected from outpatient department for treating with BAM artificial bone by PGBR technique after finishing basic therapy. Clinic curative effects were evaluated after complete therapy 6 and 12 months through rule clinic and X- ray examination. Results Periodontal pocket deep(PD), gingiva blood index(GBI), teeth move(TM) and alveolar bone height(AH) of 67 diseased teeth except for 5 removed after treating 6 and 12 months improve much more than before treating. Conclusion PD, GBI, TM and AH of diseased teeth treating with BAM artificial bone evidently improved after finishing therapy one year in our study.
