Abstract: The mixed dentition stage is a vital period for the orthodontic treatment of patients with cleft lip and palate(CLP). This period marks the time when alveolar bone grafting and growth modification should be implemented. Considering the diversity of malformation, severe craniofacial growth deformity, and particularity of mixed dentition, challenges and controversies of orthodontic treatment arise. We reviewed the procedure and methods of the orthodontic treatment of CLP patients during the mixed dentition stage to provide guidance for clinical application.

Key words: cleft lip and palate, orthodontic treatment, mixed dentition
