Abstract: Tooth wear is a common type of tooth surface loss distinguished from dental caries, trauma, or developmental abnormalities. Worn anterior teeth mainly influence the appearance and pronunciation of an individual. Restoration of worn anterior teeth is a common clinical problem. In consideration of aesthetic effects, worn anterior teeth are often restored using tooth-colored restorative materials, mainly composite resins and ceramics. During the restoration of worn anterior teeth, factors such as changes in chemical compositions, structures of worn anterior teeth, and various properties of tooth-colored restorative materials should be considered. Thus, the selection of tooth-colored restorative materials remains a controversial research hotspot in prosthodontics. This review systematically elaborates the selection of tooth-colored restorative materials, including composite resins and ceramics, for worn anterior teeth.

Key words: tooth wear, composite resin, zirconia ceramics, silicate glass-ceramics
