Abstract: Tooth wear is frequently seen in dental practice. It is an important consequence of occlusal interactions. This can result in discomfort when areas of dentine become exposed, and lead to unacceptable aesthetic changes associated with reduced crown height and, in some cases, compromised function. If not controlled, wear could lead to poor masticatory function with a concomitant reduction in quality of life and possible deterioration of systemic health. Therefore, when considering how to control wear, the best method of measuring wear must be found. This review focused on some universally used methods of measuring wear, such as the indexes for measuring the wear of tooth, the cusp height measurement method, two -dimensional digital measurement method and three-dimensional digital measurement method and application in orthodontics, prosthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgeons.

Key words: wear, dental cast, scanning, three-dimensional imaging, method of measuring
