Anatomic study of fibular flap

Abstract:

Objective To describe the anatomy of fibular flap to provide anatomical basis for reconstruction of maxillomandibular defect. Methods Six adult lower leg specimens fixed by 10% formalin were dissected layer by layer, and then observing, measuring and taking photographs. Results The original external diameters of peroneal artery were （2.93±0.47）mm, the perpendicular lengths from fibular head to original peroneal artery and to fibular perforator vessel were （41.75±3.17）mm and （166.67±17.23）mm, respectively. All peroneal arterys originate from the posterior tibial artery. Conclusion Vascularised fibular flap adapts to maxillomandibular reconstruct due to itsvariable course of peroneal artery and wide original external diameters relatively, as well as invariable perforator vessel relatively.
