Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of fiber-reinforced post and cast metal post applied to restore serious posterior teeth defect. Methods One hundred and six serious defect posterior teeth from 97 patients were randomly divided into two groups after root canal treatment. Fifty two teeth in one group were restored with fiber-reinforced post while 54 teeth in the other group restored with cast metal post. Porcelain fused to metal crowns were applied in both groups. After 12-24 months observation, the survival rate of each group were followed up and analyzed by SPSS software package for χ test. Results Two out of 52 teeth failed in the fiber-reinforced post group while 6 out of 54 teeth in the cast metal post group. There was statistical difference between two groups in survival rate. Conclusion Fiber-reinforced post can be used as ideal restoration material in serious defect posterior teeth.
