Clinical staging of mucosal melanoma of head and neck

Abstract: Melanoma is the malignant tumor with high rates of recurrence and metastasis. Compared to squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck(HNSCC) which have specical tumor node metastasis(TNM) staging, mucosal melanomas of head and neck(HNMM) apply with the TNM staging proposed for the cutaneous melanomas. Since there are signifinant differences between mucosa and skin in histological structure, HNMM should have the specical staging for treatment and prognosis. This article summarized the progress in clinical staging of mucosal melanoma of oral, nasal and sinonasal cavity.
