Abstract:

Remodeling mechanisms of the temporomandibular joint play an important role in the basic research of the orthopedic orthodontic treatment and temporomandibular joint disorders. Subchondral bone was one of the
several tissues involved in the temporomandibular joint. It has a significant mechanical function of transmitting loads from the cartilage in the underlying cancellous bone and has been implicated in remodeling of the joint. In this article, the anatomic structure, physiological function, pathological change and the remodeling process of the subchondral bone have been reviewed.
