Abstract:

Nerve injury is one of the most serious complications in the tooth extraction, and it also appears varying degrees of neurological symptoms in the clinical practice. Lingual nerve injury is the most serious type of this complication. In recent years, there have been an increasing number of reports on such complications. Lingual nerve injury can lead to temporary or permanent side of the ipsilateral 2/3 of the tongue numbness and sensory disturbances. There is a variety of treatment for this complication at present but none of these treatments can ensure that every patient will recover completely. So it is important for us to do the preventing work well. This paper will discuss the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment of nerve injury in the tooth extraction. We hope that it will help our doctors in the daily work.

Key words: tooth extraction, lingual nerve, nerve injury
