Abstract:

Effective vertical control is the key for successful orthodontic treatments and to receive the ideal outcome. In recent years, with the widespread application of implant anchorage in orthodontic therapy, increasing emphasis has been laid on vertical control via implant anchorage. This article aims to review the recent researches about the use of implant anchorage for vertical control in orthodontic treatments. Compared with traditional vertical control technologies, implant anchorage application was analyzed from three aspects: Recent applications, clinical research, and possible risks. Meanwhile, the bright future of broadening and promoting vertical control technologies by implant anchorage is expected, hoping to provide some ideas and evidence for clinical practice.

Key words: vertical control, implant anchorage, mini-implant
