Abstract:

Tissue adhesives used as hemostatic agents, sealants, delivery platforms and implantable biomedical mate-rials have been widely studied in different fields of biomedical engineering. In recent years, researchers have focused on developing novel tissue adhesives suitable for moist and highly dynamic oral environments. Compared with traditional tissue adhesives, novel ones have great advantages in hemostasis, drug delivery, tissue repair, and so on, because of their good biocompatibility, biodegradation, and tissue adhesion. As such, these materials show broad application prospects in the oral region. In this paper, tissue adhesives widely used in the field of stomatology are briefly classified, focusing on the composition, characteristics, adhesion mechanism, application, and existing problems of novel adhesives. This work aims to provide reference for the application and research of novel tissue adhesives in this field.

Key words: tissue adhesive, drug delivery, hydrogel, hemostatic agents, mussel, oral
