Abstract: Oral environment is a complex environment of pH value. Nickel-titanium arch wires are easy to be corroded by many factors in oral environment. The corrosion will affect the mechanical characteristics and biocompatibility.
The improvement in oxidize layer and composition of nickel-titanium arch wires can increase the property of corrosion resistance. This review focused on the corrosion and corrosion resistance of nickel-titanium arch wises in oral environment.

Key words: corrosion, nickel-titanium arch wires, microorganisms, fluoride, chlorine
