Abstract:
Temporomandibular joint ankylosis(TMJA) is a kind of common diseases in oral and maxillofacial surgery, and it seriously damages patient′s figure and function. Trauma is the main cause. However, until now, the exact mechanism of posttraumatic TMJA formation and etiologic factors are still unknown. The close relationship between intracapsular condylar fractures and posttraumatic TMJA has been showed in lots of articles. Posttraumatic TMJA mostly happens when seriously displaced fractures have occured together with damaged articular facet, increasing of mandible width and mandibular hypomobility. This review highlighted the recent advances in the epidemiology, intracapsular condylar fracture′s biological mechanics and classification, animal experiment and clinicalresearch.
