Abstract:

Objective To study the psychological experience of patients undergoing computer-assisted navigated maxillofacial surgery. Methods Thirty patients who had computer-assisted navigated maxillofacial surgery from October, 2015 to July, 2016 were included into this study. Information from patients were achieved through in-depth interview, and analyzed with Colaizzi method in a qualitative way. Results Based on the interview, 5 themes were identified from the patients studied: 1) anxiety towards the illness and operation; 2) confidence in computer-navigated surgery, but lack in relative knowledge; 3) satisfaction with the treatment provided by the hospital and doctors; 4) satisfaction with the care from the nurses; 5) satisfaction with the surgical outcome. ConclusionWith improved knowledge of surgical navigation, patients showed confidence in this new technology. This suggested detailed introduction was beneficial for these patients. Combined with careful nursing, communication and mental care, successful nursing targets could be achieved.
