Abstract:

Obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS) is a common sleep disorder characterized by repetitive obstruction or collapse in the upper airways during sleep. Related studies have recently focused on the genioglossus, which is the most important upper airway dilator. The present review summarizes the function and structure of the genioglossus and discusses the current research progress on its involvement with the onset and the therapy of OSAHS.
