Matrix metalloproteinases’influence on durability of dentin bonding

Abstract:

Matrix metalloproteinases(MMP) are a family of proteolytic enzymes with the main function of hydrolyzing extracellular matrix, of which activity requires calcium and zinc ions. The acidic component of dentin adhesives can activate the pro-MMP to degrade the nude collagen fibrils and destroy the interface of resin-dentin bond which leads to the failure of binding. Inhibiting MMP will increase bond durability. The purpose of this article is to review the research progress of MMP’s activating in resin-dentin bond and influence on bond durability, special attention being devoted to the means to inhibiting or inactivating MMP.
