Efficacy evaluation of immediate dentin sealing for prevention of dentin hypersensitivity after porcelain veneer restoration

Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the effect of immediate dentin sealing in the prevention of dentin hypersensitivity after porcelain veneer restoration. Methods 76 patients with 138 upper anterior teeth in different patients were randomly divided into two groups, namely experiment group(69 teeth) of dentin bonding agent(single bond Ⅱ) coating the preparational surface of abutment and light-cured following preparation before making the impression, control group(69 teeth) of making the impression after preparation directly. After the removal of the temporary veneer, sensitive evaluation of labial surface of abutment 24 hours, one week later, and one month later before the veneer restoration finished was conducted. Results There are significant differences between experiment group and control group in 1 degree and in 2 degrees when evaluated prepared 24 hours and one week later. There is significant difference between experiment group and control group in 0 degree and 2 degrees when evaluated prepared one month later. Conclusion The effect of dentin bonding agent in the prevention of dentin hypersensitivity after porcelain veneer restoration are significant. In our clinical trail, coating the preparational surface of abutment and light-cured following preparation before making the impression can reduce the abutment hypersensitivity and shorten the time of patients who adapt to the dentures.
