Abstract:

Skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion is a common malocclusion deformity. It presents mandibular protrusion, midfacial introcession and other changes of lateral facial profile in clinical, which have seriously affected the person’s appearance and self-confidence. In recent years, studies have shown that skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion involves the whole cranio-maxillofacial soft and hard tissues, which is a comprehensive multi-organ disease. In order to understand the relationship between the oral and maxillofacial morphological characteristics of skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion and the factors of the malocclusion, the five aspects including mandible, midface complex, soft tissue, cranial base and head position are explained.

Key words: skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion, mandibular protrusion, crossbite
