Research advancement on the changes of masticatory muscles after orthognathic sur

Abstract: Orthognathic surgery breaks the primary jaw system and rebuilds the balance of occlusion to improve the mastication and feature. Following the development of medicine and the advancement of people′s concepts, orthognathic surgery was accepted by more and more patients and academic circles. But a few patients do not have a good recovery even recurred after operation. The anatomic structure of maxillofacial region is very complex. So there are many items influencing the prognosis especially the change of soft tissue. As it′s hard to observe, its course and mechanism is not very clear. This article summarized the research advancement on the changes of masticatory muscles after orthognathic surgery.
