Host-derived matrix metalloproteinase and resin adhesion

Abstract: The host-derived matrix metalloproteinase（MMP） is a family of Ca/Zn-dependent proteinase, whose mainly biological function is to degrade the extracellular matrix. MMP would be activated by the right acidity decreasing
in surface layer dentin during resin adhesion. Then it would attack the collagen near the bottom of hybrid layer and destroy hybrid layer resulting in reducing the longevity of adhesive. This review focuses on MMP, the effect of both latent and active form followed by variation of acidity and its damage of hybrid layers.
