Analysis of skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion in early permanent dentition treated by rapid maxillary expansion with occlusal pad and maxillary protraction

Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the effects of Class Ⅲ malocclusion in the early permanent dentition treated by combined rapid maxillary expansion with occlusal pad and maxillary protraction. Methods 18 patients treated by combined rapid maxillary expansion with occlusal pad and maxillary protraction. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were used to quantify the hard and soft tissues changes before and after treatment, and statistical software was used to analyze the changes. Results Many markers of patients showed obvious changes at horizontal level. The maxillary bone was significantly forward moved（P<0.05）. Conclusion Combined rapid maxillary expansion with occlusal pad and maxillary protraction effectively promote the development of maxilla, inhibit mandibular growth, and improve the soft tissue profile. It may be an effective method to correct skeletal Class Ⅲ malocclusion in early permanent dentition.
