The Prevalence of Dental Anxiety in the Aged People

Abstract:

Objective To determine the prevalence of dental anxiety in aged patients and also the influence factors. Methods A coach dental anxiety scale(DAS)was randomly used in 100 aged patients. Results The incidence rate of dental anxiety(DA) in these patients was 56%. The main reason of DA was pain and the rate was 70%. The incidence rate of being afraid of the dentist′s technical was not very good or the attitude was not serious was 12%. The incidence rate of being afraid of the treatment was too complex or the pay for the treatment was too expensive was 10%. The other was 8% which contained being afraid of tooth extraction and the sequelae etc. Conclusion The DA exists in 56% patients and pain is the most significant reason.
