Abstract: Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE) is an advanced molecular fingerprinting technique. Because of its objective, rapid and accurate ssessment character, DGGE has extensively been used on assessment of the diversity and changes of bacterial species in the microbial population. This article reviewed the principle, merits and limitations of DGGE technique and also reviewed the latest research in the oral cavity with this novel technique.
