Abstract: Focal osteoporotic bone marrow defect(FOBMD) of the jaw, most commonly seen in the posterior mandible of middle-aged women, is a radiolucent lesion. Yet, the pathogenesis of FOBMD is unknown. The lesion, usually asymptomatic, is only incidentally discovered through radiography. Since FOBMD is infrequency, it is difficult to get the initial clinical diagnosis. In this article, we reviewed the pathogenesis, clinical characteristic, radiographic exhibition, histologic feature, diagnosis and treatment of the FOBMD to get some information for improving
the ability of recognition in clinic.
