Abstract: Antimicrobial therapy has been widely used as adjunct to periodontal treatment in clinical practice, through the way of systemic administration or local delivery. Reasonable selection of antimicrobial agents plays an important role in antimicrobial therapy. In this review, the susceptibility of periodontal pathogenes to antimicrobial agents and antimicrobial resistance as a consequence of antimicrobial therapy will be described.
