Abstract: The measurement of the jaw bone density is vital to the diagnosis and treatment of the periodontal disease and oral implant prosthesis, and it is one of the major topics in oral medicine for a long time. With the development of modern measurement instrument, widely used of non-invasive and high accuracy measurement technology of bone density, great progress has been made in the jaw bone density measurement recently. The ionizing radiation measurement is the most popular technology used in domestic and international characterized by low cost and good performance in measurement accuracy, while the non-ionizing radiation measurement is more safer andenvironment-protected by avoiding the dangers of radiation. In this paper, the progress of jaw bone density measurement was reviewed in both the ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation measurement fields.
