Abstract:

With the rapid progress of digital camera and computer technology, digital photography offers significant benefits to dental practices, especially to cosmetic dentistry, providing a powerful tool for diagnosis and treatment planning. Digital dental photography requires the combined knowledge of dentistry, computer technology and photography. To obtain qualified dental images, the practitioner needs a basic understanding of computer science and standard photography for proper utilization. This article, as a guide to the beginners of dental photography, briefly introduced some basic general knowledge of dental photography, including correlative basic knowledge of photography, required equipments and techniques, correct workflow patterns and essentials for standard dental images. Practitioner needs necessary training and persistent practice, together with the training of the staff members, the regular dental image can make the treatment effective and beneficial to both the practice and the patient.
