Abstract: With the development of microecology, it is paid more and more attention to the medical field. Streptococcus mutans is the main cariogenic bacteria in oral cavity, and it can result in caries through adherence, acid production and acid tolerance. The review presents investigations in recent years on Streptococcus mutans in the fields of transmission, signal conduction system, cariogenicity and immunization against dental caries.
