Abstract: It has been proposed that the use of a ferrule as part of the core or artificial crown may be of benefit in reinforcing the endodontically treated teeth restored with post- and- core systems. The purpose of this article is to review the types and designs of the ferrule and to identify the factors that influence the ferrule effect.
