Abstract:

Titanium alloys are widely used in dental implants because of their excellent comprehensive properties, but they still encounter issues such as long osseointegration period, limited local biocompatibility, and potential corrosion. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technology can effectively improve the surface characteristics of titanium alloy via the electrochemical in-situ generation of a ceramic film layer. In this paper, the research progress in the application of MAO-modified titanium alloy dental materials was reviewed from four aspects: improvement of antibacterial properties through do-ping, promotion of bone integration ability and bioactivity, optimization of surface morphology and performance, and evaluation of clinical application potential and safety. MAO technology has the potential for multifunctional integration due to the in-situ generation of ceramic oxide films, combined with its antibacterial and bone integration promotion capabilities. Compared with anodic oxidation, plasma spraying, and other technologies, MAO demonstrates superior bonding strength and biological activity. In the future, multiple composite coating technologies must be developed to facilitate multifunctional integration. MAO technology provides a novel pathway for the development of high-performance dental implant materials.
