Clinical evaluation of residual crowns and roots of maxillary premolars restored with different post-and-core systems

Abstract:

Objective To evaluate the clinical effects of maxillary premolars restored with different post-and-core systems and to provide guidance on clinical practice. Methods In this study, 78 patients with a total of 93 residual roots and crowns after root canal therapy were selected. According to different situations, some of them were restored with cast metal post and core, some with fiber post and resin core, and the others with resin filling to the root canal. All teeth systems through clinical and X-ray examinations. Results The success rate had no significant difference among the three groups. The common complications of the groups of fiber post and resin filling included dislocation and post fractures, whereas root fractures were observed in the group of cast metal post. Conclusion The three post-and-core systems all had high success rate. Given the unrestorable fractures, we should choose cast metal post and core restoration carefully.
