Investigation of epidemic fluorosis and the current prosthodontical therapy status in coal-burning pollution area of Zhenxiong and Weixin

Abstract:

Objective To study the prevalence of fluorosis and the current prosthodontical therapy status, to find out relationship between them in high fluoride areas of Zhenxiong and Weixin. Methods Use stratified random sampling method. The dental fluorosis prevalence index and current prosthodontical therapy status were studied in people aged 35-44 in the high fluoride areas of Zhenxiong and Weixin. Results The incidence of the fluorosis was 100%. The total community fluorosis index was 3.49 which indicated the area was serious coal-polluted fluorosis area. There was no significant difference between urban and rural, male and female. Concerned the current prosthodontical therapy status, there was significant difference between urban and rural. It was also related to the degrees of the fluorosis, but no significant difference between male and female. Restoration pass rate was only 7.7%. 93.3% people urged to get the prosthodontical therapy, but most of them only could afford about ¥300 yuan for the therapy. Conclusion According to the serious prevalence of fluorosis and poor economic condition, we advised that the resin venner restorations are the fitable methed to improve the health and the cosmetology of the teeth in that area.
