Influencing factors on color of maxillofacial silastic prosthesis

Abstract: The maxillofacial silastic prosthesis is one of the important prosthetic methods for maxillofacial rehabilitation, which is critical to the patient′s emotional well-being. The simulation quality of color is the most important key to fabricate an esthetically pleasing prosthesis. Besides, the replacement prostheses are provided mainly due to color fading of the original maxillofacial silastic prosthesis. There are mainly three influencing factors. The first is the nature of colorants, including its color stability, curing stability and opacifier contents. The second is the color matching methods, which contain experiential and computer color matching. The last is the environmental influencing factors, including the ultraviolet ray, microwave disinfection impact, the thermal factors, the ozone and the extrinsic coloration. This article will mainly focus on the influencing factors on color of maxillofacial silastic prosthesis from these three aspects.
